Art - Heather Reed

What is Art? There is no one universal definition of visual art though there is a consensus that art is the conscious creation of something beautiful or meaningful using skill and imagination. Art is everywhere - in the sky, in the trees, at the grocery store, at the lake. You get it. It's all around. In this Art class, we go beyond art technique. We learn about various artists and make our own imaginative spins on their famous artworks. We learn about mediums beyond the pencil and paper from clay to watercolor to resists to using pieces from nature. We focus greatly on a student's imagination and creativity to see where that leads him or her.

Biology (Labs)

This class will be available for high school science credit with lab. Students who wish to take the class for credit will be required to purchase a student book for home reference but will not be required to bring it to class unless they prefer. Parents please be advised when considering this class for your child. It will include case studies from real life and, while these issues are being talked about from a Christian/biblical perspective, sometimes real life is ugly and messy and may not be suitable for some students at this point in time. All students will be required to participate in note taking, worksheets, and labs in class. Quizzes and tests will only be required for those taking the class for credit. The teacher will keep track of all worksheets, quizzes, and tests and will give them to parents at the end of the course. The teacher will not be responsible for assigning any credit, this responsibility falls to the parent. If taking this class for credit, students will be required to participate in the course for 2 semesters. The term forensic science refers to the acquisition of knowledge gained from the evidence, analysis, and investigator interpretations with the goal of presenting this knowledge before individuals in the judicial system. While television, movies, and podcasts have popularized forensic science, much of what is portrayed in the media is not accurate. Intro to Forensic Science from a Biblical Worldview homeschool curriculum was developed to teach your students how to use keen observational techniques, understand the disciplines that make up forensic science, and know how to apply them to seeking first the Kingdom of God. In every lesson, applicable Scripture is woven throughout the text, along with practical labs, and review materials. Case studies are included to raise the students awareness of some of the most famous crimes in history, both solved and unsolved, while examining real investigative practices, time frames, and judicial results. Because of the sensitive nature of the case studies, this course is recommended to 11th and 12th grade students. Course Objectives Study forensic science through a biblical lens and learn how science clearly confirms the Bible. Discover how casts are taken of shoeprints and tire marks and how they are used in investigation. Evaluate fire and blood spatter patterns and how they are used to determine origin and method. Explore several types of microscopes and their purposes in forensic science. Examine the role of alcohol, drugs, tools, insects, and more in crime scene investigation.
